Danne Bouman was born in 2003 in Groningen, NL, where she currently resides and works. What does it mean to exist both as a body and within one? How can we truly connect when we remain bound within our own bodies and perceived realities? Danne Bouman is fascinated by the tension between the human need for connection juxtaposed with the solitude of embodiment. In her work, she explores this tension while investigating the role of body language as communicator of the subconscious. Through abstracting techniques, rooted in an ongoing material research of paint, solvents, thread and varnish, her human figures are rendered elusive, visualizing this search for connection. Between the constant urge to return to the subject and the desire to estrange it, her work moves within a realm of in-betweenness. Between body and landscape, exhibitionism and concealment, connection and isolation. The intimate, corporeal images turn the viewer into voyeur and invite reflection on the complexity of perception itself.
